Tipperary schools to receive funding for improvement works

The Education Department has allocated 36 million euro nation-wide for a raft of repairs to be carried out under the summer works programme. 

The annual summer works scheme allows for jobs like window repairs, upgrading of science and specialist rooms, improvements to school walls and fences along with a other work to be carried out while students are on their holidays causing minimal disruption. 

21 Tipperary schools, 16 primary and 5 secondary, have been allocated funding for work this year.

The work will get underway once the academic year finishes so as to cause minimal disruption to students and staff. 

Included in the list are Boher national school, Monard, Ballyneale and Portroe while the Abbey CBS in Tipperary Town and the Presentation School in Clonmel are among the post primary schools included on the list. 

Country-wide, 36 million euro has been allocated for the 2015 Summer Works Scheme. 

The work is also seen as a boost to the local economies as it will boost employment.
