Tipperary hoteliers are optimistic about the summer season ahead.

However over 70 percent are having difficulty in hiring suitably qualified entry level staff.

In the Irish Hotels Federation latest quarterly barometer – 86 percent of its members indicated a positive outlook for the next six months. Two thirds have reported an increase in domestic visitors compared to 2013 and a rise in advance bookings from Great Britain and the United States.

This positive outlook as prompted 42 percent of IHF members both here in Tipperary and across the county to state they hope to increase staffing levels over the next year – however many also expressed difficulty in recruiting qualified entry level staff compared to last year.

Local authority rates remain the biggest concern for hoteliers in the Premier County with 81 percent of respondents saying it was having a negative impact on business. Other pressing concerns include utility costs and accessing normal credit facilities from banks is still an issue.
