Tipperary dole queues rise again

Latest figures show there are over 11 and a half thousand people on the Live Register in the Premier County

An extra 330 people were signing on in Tipperary last month compared to November.

Latest figures from the Central Statistics Office show an increase of 201 in North Tipp and 129 in the south of the county.

All eight social welfare offices in the county saw an increase with the largest in Thurles where an additional 80 people signed on – Carrick on Suir was the only office to record a single digit increase with 6 more people signing on.

In all there are now 11,521 people claiming some form of unemployment payment in the Premier County.

This is down over 1,500 or nearly 12% on December 2015 – however when compared with a decade ago shows an increase of 116% on December 2006 when there 5,315 people on the Live Register in Tipperary.
