A number of centres will resume the General Election count this morning, including Thurles which will continue at 10am after its 11pm finish last night.

Independent TD Michael Lowry won the first seat in the first count with more than 14,000 votes. Four seats remain and five candidates have been eliminated.

Transfer distribution will dictate the state of play for the remaining seats.

Nationally, 82 seats remain to be filled.

Lowry’s result was met with applause and cheers at the count centre when Tipperary Returning Officer James Seymour took to the podium.
