Tipp shoppers urged to be security conscious this Christmas

With December 8th marking the traditional start of the Christmas shopping period Gardaí in Tipperary are warning people to be more security conscious.

There has already been an increase in thefts across the county in recent weeks.

With the hustle & bustle of Christmas getting into full swing its all too easy for people to take their mind off of basic security measures.

Over €400,000 worth of goods were stolen from cars last year with an average loss of €600 per incident.

Crime Prevention Officer in the Tipperary Division Sergeant Tom O'Dwyer is urging people to take steps to ensure they do not become victims this Christmas.

He says parking in a well lit area is important as is making sure your car is secure.

Caution is also being advised for people who might be withdrawing large amounts of cash in the run-up to Christmas.

Inspector Eddie Golden says you should be conscious of people around you in such instances.
