Tipp Gaelscoil named Cycling School of the Year

Gaelscoil Aonach in Nenagh was among eight schools honoured at the Green Schools ceremony in Dublin this week.

During February schools undertook the Big Travel Challenge which asked them to concentrate on one sustainable transport mode for two weeks.

Gaelscoil Aonach focused on cycling and began the challenge with 2 students and ending up with 80 pupils travelling to school by bike.

The school on St Conlon's Road also held cycle skills workshops for students as well as putting news of their efforts on the school website.

An Taisce has been working on the national Green-Schools Travel programme, which focuses on promoting sustainable travel on the school run, since 2008.
