Tipp fails to impress in IBAL survey

However, Tipperary Town failed to improve its standing and is still classed as 'moderately littered'.

In the first round of results from the Irish Businesses Against Litter league, the Premier County has failed to improve on 2013.

Clonmel has retained its 'Cleaner than European Norms' status, but slipped to 13th place in the rankings.

Surveyors said that both approach routes to the town were in good order and singled out Anglesea Street and the railway station as particularly clean…however the recycling facility at the Suir Island car park was the most heavily littered site surveyed.

Tipperary Town however, is still classed as 'Moderately Littered' and was ranked 31st out of 40.

Surveyors who judged the town said the level of litter at many of the moderately littered sites was such that they could easily slide to a 'seriously littered' site.

The public park, Kickham Place, grasslands beside Post Office and the Recycle Facility in SuperValu Car Park were noted as black spots while the report found that A 'Keep Tipperary Tidy' sign had graffiti on it.

Inspectors also looked at connecting routes between towns, typically these were found to be more littered than the towns themselves.

Of the Tipperary to Limerick road, isolated areas were strewn with rubbish.

The survey found that sweet papers were by far the most common form of litter, followed by cigarette butts, fast food wrappers and chewing gum.
