Tipp businesses to be billed directly by Irish Water

The utililty has started the process of taking over those accounts from the County Council.

It insists that charges for business customers, credit terms and the frequency of billing will remain unchanged while the transition takes place.

Up until now the charging process for the commercial sector in Tipperary and nationwide remained within the remit of the local authority – while Irish Water took charge of all other aspects of water services.

Under the new system which starts this week, the utility says busineses in the Premier will have a single point of customer contact for all queries in relation to water supply, wastewater treatement and business account managment. Irish Water will also contact alll 8,468 Tipperary customers who are directly affected by this transitition.

The company says charges for business customers, credit terms and the frequency of billing will remain unchanged while this transition is taking place.

However the move has sparked criticism from some local representatives who fear that once business customers are transferred their costs will soar to make up for the shortfall in funds due to non payment of charges.
