Taoiseach leads tributes to Caitriona Lucas

The Taoiseach has led tributes to a member of the Irish Coastguard who died after her boat capsized off the Clare coast.

Mother of two Caitriona Lucas – who was a volunteer with the Doolin Coast Guard – died when the Rib from Kilkee overturned during a search for a missing man.

Two other crew members – a man and a woman – were airlifted to safety and are understood to be in a stable condition in University Hospital Limerick.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny said Ms Lucas's death has cast a 'dark shadow' across the country and praised the heroic work of the Irish Coast Guard while the Transport Minister Shane Ross said she was a brave and valiant woman engaged in the most heroic duties.

Manager of the Irish Coast Guard Declan Geoghegan says she's the first member of the Irish Coast Guard to die on duty.
