It’s reported this morning that Labour TDs will bring an emergency motion to the party’s conference this weekend, calling for the Government to turn down the €1.4 billion bid.
It's over concerns about the future of jobs at the airline’s headquarters and connectivity out of Cork and Shannon Airports.
While the Transport Minister says the Government will take its time to carefully consider all of the factors from IAG’s offer, the issue may be brought to ahead this weekend.
According to this morning’s Irish Independent, a motion opposing the sale will be put to delegates at the party s annual conference in Killarney.
If Labour members vote in favour of that motion – the Tánaiste will have little option but to reject the bid at Cabinet.
The motion comes amid concern about job losses from the party’s Deputies in North Dublin – the home of the airline’s headquarters and majority of its employees; as well as future connectivity for Shannon and Cork Airports.
Transport Minister Paschal Donohoe will once again update his Cabinet colleagues about the status of the takeover bid this morning; while Aer Lingus will publish its annual report later today.
