South Tipp GPs say doctors are being bullied into Under 6 scheme.

An open letter signed by 39 GPs in the area has been sent to Health Minister Leo Varadkar seeking a meeting to discuss their concerns at the impact the free scheme will have.

Of the 51 General Practitioners in South Tipperary just 7 have agreed to the proposals – made up of 5 different doctors with some operating two offices.

Dr David Janes from the Fourmilewater Health Centre is a spokesperson for GPs in South Tipp.

He says the Under 6 Scheme would ultimately impact on patient care.

Despite having the lowest uptake in the country South Tipperary GPs say they are not opposed to providing free care to under 6's.

Dr Janes says it's the contract on offer that's causing the problems and also claims doctors are being bullied into signing up for the Under 6 scheme.
