Series of meetings today to resolve Stormont deadlock

Theresa Villiers will update MPs in the House of Commons before meeting with the Minister for Foreign Affairs Charlie Flanagan.

She is also due to hold discussions with representatives from Northern Ireland's main political parties.

Belfast-based Security Correspondent Alan Murray says a 4 week deadline has been set for negotiations on a range of problem topics, but that could stretch out much further

“If they get into the fundamentals of the Good Friday Agreement and how the assembly works, then you could be in for months” he said.

“But I doubt whether the SDLP or Sinn Fein will yield to Mr Robinson's demand that there should be fundamental changes to how the executive actually works” he added.
