Senior Labour figures back Gilmore

The Public Expenditure and Reform Minister has described the comments as unhelpful. Brendan Howlin says Phil Prendergast  was wrong to call for Eamon Gilmores resignation so close to an election.

Communications Minister Pat Rabbitte – himself a past leader of the party – says Labour has taken a “disproportionate share” of the blame for difficult decisions by the Government in recent years and Eamon Gilmore has his backing.

Closer to home – Junior Transport Minister and Tipperary TD Alan Kelly says there will be no change of leadership in the Labour Party ahead of the May 23rd elections.

Minister Kelly who is Phil Prendegast's Director of Elections says the call made was hers alone and there will be no discussion on leadership at this stage.
