Kevin Cardiff has told the Banking Inquiry that Mr FitzPatrick's request was followed by discussions with a litany of senior bankers and others who suggested a guarantee might be welcome.
Mr Cardiff – who led the Department's banking unit at the time of the guarantee – has been giving evidence at the Banking Inquiry.
Throughout his evidence he gave a lengthy list of people who had suggested a guarantee, or who had been consulted about the idea.
