RNLI rescue five people of cruiser on Lough Derg

The RNLI launched their lifeboat around half past 7 yesterday evening after the vessel broke down.

The RNLI Lifeboat was called in for this rescue by Valentia Coast Guard after the 28 foot boat suffered engine failure and was drifting near Ryan's Point on Lough Derg.

Shortly after 7.30, the three-man crew set off from Dromineer to assist the four adults and young child on board the cruiser.

The boat was found near Dromineer Bay where everyone on board was found safe and wearing their life jackets.

One crew member boarded the cruiser to reassure the anxious passengers…he then set up a tow and the boat was safely brought back to berth and tied up safely.

It's the latest in a series of rescues by the local RNLI unit on Lough Derg in recent weeks…so far this year, one person has died on the lake.
