Progress reported on Bansha GP issue

With the current doctor at the health clinic in the West Tipp village set to retire in the New Year there have been no expressions of interest from other GP's to take over the practice.

This is thought to be because of the post didn't include the Rural Practice Allowances for GPs to offset the cost of running a surgery outside of an urban area.

A public meeting is being held in the GAA hall there this evening where locals are expected to voice their concerns.

However following meetings with Health Minister Leo Varadkar and the HSE local Fine Gael TD Tom Hayes is confident that the situation will be resolved.

He says the position will be re-advertised with the Rural Practice Allowance included.

The Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture Tom Hayes is hopeful that the allowance can also be returned for other areas such as Cappawhite and Glengoole.
