It also runs on solar power and makes its own sterile water to wash toxins out of the body.

It means patients in the developing world can now be offered treatment, where traditionally it was too expensive or difficult to access.

The Irish Times says Mr Garvey has been awarded a major international prize for his work to mark World Kidney Day yesterday.
