Popular Tipperary hotel closes with all staff let go

In a statement to Tipp FM this afternoon Auburn Hotels (Aherlow) Limited has announced that it has been obliged to cease trading with effect as of last Tuesday, February 9th.

The operators of Aherlow House Hotel say they had been in negotiations with the receiver from Grant Thornton over an extended period with the expectation that it would remain operating the premises.

The statement from the company says it recently became clear that the receiver intended to place the hotel for sale on the open market – subsequent negotiations between both sides were unsuccessful following which the hotel was obliged to cease trading with immediate effect.

The hotel is understood to have in excess of 40 weddings and other functions for the year ahead but says it will not be in a position to carry these through.

It has given the receiver all details of these bookings and believes that the new owner or operator may wish to take over the bookings. It is hoped that staff will also be included in the plans of the new owner or operator.

Some bookings for this weekend have been taken over by other hotels in the county.

Below is the statement from the company.
