Overcrowding Conditions Worsen at South Tipp

Staff at the Emergency Department of the Clonmel health facility have been overrun with people presenting for treatment over recent days with numbers consistently over 25 waiting on trolleys and chairs.

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation say emergency departments across the country are under increasing pressure with people presenting for treatment with a lack of staffing and beds to take care of them.

Tony went into South Tipp General on Friday and was on a trolley until 12.30am last night – he says that the staff have been amazing.

Clonmel Sinn Fein Councillor Catherine Carey has been pushing for more beds to be opened up at the hospital for several months to try to alleviate the overcrowding.

She says broken promises by the Government have led to this situation.
