Ormonde Castle to receive 1.5 million investment

The OPW has unveiled plans to develop a new interpretative centre at Ormonde Castle in Carrick on Suir to co-incide with the completion of conservation works at the site.

It's hoped this €1.5 million investment will position Carrick as a key offering within Ireland's Ancient East and open the way for new developments at the site including things like plays, performances and other public events.

Chairman of the Carrick on Suir Business Association Seamus Campbell says this will hopefully be a boost for tourism in the area.

Conservation works at the building means it has been closed to the public for over 18 months.

The work is expected to be completed by mid-2017.
