Opponents to Melview development reach end of the road

Local opposition to expansion plans for a nursing home in South Tipperary appears to have reached the end of the road.

Residents of the Cooleens Close area of Clonmel had opposed part of the proposals for the development of Melview Nursing Home.

Residents of Cooleens Close in Clonmel have always said they have no issue with the plans to build a major extension to the Melview Nursing Home but with a planned new access road to the facility.

Fulton County Holdings were granted permission for a 64 bedroom extension to the home by Tipperary County Council last month.

The new expansion would see pedestrian access only through the existing Melview residential estate.

A new vehicle entrance is to be developed to the nursing home from the Cashel road – this is the area of concern for the residents of Cooleens Close and Dr Pat O'Callaghan Row who made submissions to Tipperary County Council during the initial planning period.

They expressed concerns over safety issues with traffic emerging onto an already busy road.

When the local authority decided to grant conditional planning approval for the development the resident decided to take their case to An Bord Pleanala.

However the state planning appeals board has ruled that the case cannot be considered due to an invalid fee.  It's understood the Residents of Cooleens Close submitted €110 with their submission instead of the necessary €220.
