Opponents not convinced by Eirgrid proposals.

Yesterday it published details of a underground cabling system for the Grid West project in the West – with similar plans for the Munster project through the Golden Vale to be unveiled later in the year.

Eirgrid took the action after receiving hundreds of submissions from local communities opposed to huge electricity pylons being erected across the country.

However Jimmy Ryan – a farmer from Clerihan – who is among those against the overground project is sceptical of the alternatives

He feels Eirgrid may ultimately put some sections of the cable underground for just a few kilometres in a bid to pacify opponents of the pylons.
