Riots broke out following the death of a refugee who escaped from the facility on Christmas Island over the weekend.
The man's body was found at the bottom of cliffs – the cause of his death is under investigation.
Staff have withdrawn from the compound for safety reasons, there have been reports of damage but no injuries.
