A short list of nominees will be announced later this month while the winner will be named in January.
Previous winners include Mikhail Gorbachev, Dr Richard Hass, Ban Ki Moon and Nelson Mandela.
Chairman of the Tipperary Peace Convention Martin Quinn says the award is aimed at honouring those who work tirelessly for peace.
