No threat to Littleton briquette factory

Company representatives appeared before the Oireachtas Committee on Transport to answer questions on the plans to reduce their workforce over the summer months at plants in Littleton and Derrinlough in Offaly. 

North Tipperary Independent TD Michael Lowry was among the deputies putting questions to the company.

The Bord na Mona facility has closed its 24/7 production until mid-August leaving up to 80 permanent workers on reduced hours and temporary layoffs.

However, Chairman of the company John Horgan said there were absolutely no plans to close the plant in Tipperary

The Managing Director of Bord na Mona is set to meet with workers at the company's Littleton plant in the coming weeks. 

Mike Quinn said they are trialling biomass products at their Tipperary plant which will ensure the future viability of the facility.
