Topaz Energy Ltd was granted permission by Tipperary County Council last November to expand their motorway service area site on the M8 in Cashel.

The motorway services area opened at Wallers Lot in Cashel in mid 2011 with Topaz applying for a major extension last May.

The redevelopment and extension of the site at Junction 8 included an expansion to provide additional seating at the McDonalds outlet and the provision of 24 hour toilet and shower facilities.

The plans also included a major expansion of the parking facilities at the Motorway Services Area at Junction 8 to cater for 86 cars, 8 coaches, 20 HGV's, 8 motorcycles and 6 bicycle stands.

This decision was appealed to An Bord Pleanala by both Applegreen Motorway Service Areas Ltd and Applegate Motorway Service Areas Ltd.

The state planning appeals board was due to issue a ruling on the matter this week – however this has now been put off until June 7th next.
