The Newport Children's Playground Committee had lobbied a number of candidates prior to February's general election in a bid to get backing for the project.

Residents of the nearby Rosehill housing estate expressed opposition to the proposals – however Tipperary County Council's planning department has decided to give the green light to the playground.
