The National Roads Authority says motorists using the N7 into Dublin will see a dramatic difference in their commutes, with the opening of the Newlands Cross flyover.
The route is being officially opened by the Transport Minister today. It will open to traffic on Thursday – as part of a 282 million euro road upgrade.
A flyover has been built on the Naas Road close to the M50 at the junction with the Fonthill and Belgard Roads.
The Head of Communications at the NRA, Sean O'Neill, says it will help to greatly improve traffic flow.
“But I think at the same time I need to caution everyone – it's not a panacea for all the traffic problems in Dublin, it's obviously a major congestion point” he said.
“But then people will be travelling on and getting into the city and the mire of the city traffic routes are still going to be there – but Newlands Cross is going to be a big, big change” he added.
