The newly elected Mayor of the Clonmel Borough District has earmarked the retention of acute services at South Tipp General Hospital as one of the key issues during his term in office.
Workers and Unemployed Action Group member Pat English takes over the Mayoral chains from Councillor Martin Lonergan last evening.
Fianna Fails Siobhan Ambrose was the only other nomination with Councillor English winning by 5 votes to 4.
He says maintaining services at South Tipp General needs to be a priority.
Mayor English says it’s now essential for the county as a whole given that many people are travelling from North Tipp to avail of services at the Clonmel health facility.
