National enforcement operation underway

Gardaí in Tipperary are appealing to motorists to slow down with a national enforcement operation currently underway.

Speed is a factor in a third of all fatal road collisions and Gardai are trying to raise awareness of the dangers of speeding.

The number of road fatalities in Tipperary this year is 13 – up from 4 last year.
There'll be extra speed checks throughout the country until 7am tomorrow and road safety messages will be delivered through the media.

Chief Superintendent Aidan Reid, from the Garda National Traffic Bureau, says so far – they've been disappointed by many motorists' behaviour.
