When the M8 Dublin – Cork motorway opened the original road went from a national to a county route and its speed limit fell from 100kph to 80.
However, most local authorities along the route then raised the limit to 100 bar one section near Cashel which local representatives claim is leading to countless motorists being penalised unfairly.
Fianna Fail Clr Seamus Hanafin says the final piece will now also be raised to 100kph this year.
