Moyne man faces jail over abusing stepdaughters

John Joe Patterson of Kilclooney, Moyne was found guilty on 40 separate counts following two trials at Nenagh Circuit Court earlier this year. 

Emma Witherow and her sister, Vanessa waived their right to anonymity in June following the conviction of John Joe Patterson for sexual assault.

Patterson, with an address of Kilclooney, Moyne, pleaded guilty at Nenagh Circuit Court to one count of sexually assaulting Vanessa. 

He had already been convicted by a jury of 39 counts of sexual assault on Emma following a five-week trial.

The court heard the sexual assaults on his young step daughters took place over a ten year period from September 1996 until 2006.

It started when they were just 9 years of age and continued until they turned 18.

Both victims waved their right to anonymity so their step father could be named…

John Joe Patterson is due to be sentenced later this afternoon at Nenagh Circuit Court.
