Middle ranking Gardaí are engaging in industrial action for the first time in the history of the state.
Sergeants and Inspectors have been refusing to log onto the Garda computer system since this morning – and will join rank and file officers in full strike action on four days next month.
Sinn Féin is pleading for the dispute to be resolved, saying no-one wants to see the strike happening.
From 7 am, most of the 2,000 or so sergeants and inspectors have embarked on a work to rule in their dispute over pay.
They're refusing to log onto the PULSE crime management system and will escalate their action to all out strike on four days with rank and file Gardaí next month.
Sinn Fein deputy leader Mary Lou McDonald is hoping it won't come to that.
