The German Chancellor Angela Merkel says she will run for re-election next year.
Speaking to her party in Berlin she said she expected her toughest campaign to date – and vowed to 'fight for our values and our way of life.'

If successful, it would be her fourth term in office – equalling the postwar record set by Chancellor Helmut Kohl.
