MEP says delay in forming government would create “international concerns”

The 32nd Dáil is due to meet for the first time tomorrow, however, it's expected that Enda Kenny will not have enough votes to be re-elected as Taoiseach.

The leader of Fianna Fail, Micheál Martin and Sinn Fein's Gerry Adams, will also put their names forward to be the next Taoiseach.

MEP Brian Hayes, who was Fine Gael's Director of Elections, says he hopes a government can be formed soon.

“I mean (in) most continental countries people are used to this, where it takes six or seven months to form a government” he said.

“I hope it's not too long, because I think if it is too long I think there will be international concerns and worries about the length of time it's taking”.

“There's no concerns at the moment – but I think were this to go on for many months, I think there would be concerns about the stability of our system” he added.
