Measures needed for new teachers

Fianna Fail says the Government needs to set out a clear future path for teachers who are new to the profession.

The ASTI is due to stage seven separate days of strike action starting next Thursday.

The teachers' union is holding the industrial action in a dispute over pay for newer members of the profession.

Other teaching unions, the TUI and the INTO, secured increased pay for teachers who joined the profession after 2011 during negotiations with the Department of Education.

However, unlike ASTI, the TUI and INTO signed up to the Lansdowne Road Agreement.

Fianna Fail's Education Spokesperson Thomas Byrne, says the Education Minister needs to do more to provide hope to newer members of the teaching profession.
