The car left the road and hit a ditch at about a quarter past four this morning at Dromsallagh, Cappamore.
One man, believed to be in his late teens or early 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene while a second man of similar age was removed to University Hospital Limerick.
The road remains closed while a forensic examination of the scene is carried out.
