He was rushed to hospital after the attack near the Five Lamps at about a quarter to 11 last night – but was pronounced dead this morning.
The scene of the stabbing on the North Strand Road remains sealed off this morning to allow for a technical examination.
Gardaí are calling for witnesses to come forward.
