Lowry refutes suggestions he could run as FG candidate

There has been much speculation of late regarding Tipperary County Councillor Michéal Lowry.

The son of the Independent TD Michael was first elected to North Tipp County Council 2004 and is now a member of the single county authority.

This weeks Tipperary Star reports that he will stand for Fine Gael in the next General Election – provided his father is not standing as an independent candidate.

However speaking to Tipp FM News today Michéal Lowry said this was news to him.

The article suggests that Councillor Lowry would run alongside Fine Gael's Michael Murphy who previously stood for the party in the 2011 General Election.

Speaking to Fran Curry on Tipp Today Councillor Murphy expressed reservations about Michéal Lowry being accepted by Fine Gael.

There has also been recent speculation that Councillor Michéal Lowry was to be included among the Taoiseach's nominations for the Seanad.

This however did not come to pass.

Councillor Lowry says the suggestion that he was being considered also came as a surprise to him.
