Loophole said to benefit TDs and Senators

Currently, a Minister, TD or Senator who has a constituency office in Tipperary does not have to pay commercial rates on that property.

The issue was raised at this week's meeting of Tipperary County Council where officials were told that it is an unfair advantage to the elected representatives over other businesses

The issue was met with criticism from management for raising it at the meeting but Independent Councillor Jim Ryan says the current rules need to be changed

He says it's unfair when other businesses in town centres are struggling to pay the charges.
