Lidl planning to expand Tipp Town store

The retailer has lodged a planning application with the County Council to demolish their existing outlet in Tipp town and replace it with a new state of the art store.

Supermarket giant Lidl this week announced it's to begin recruitment to fill 600 new jobs across the country.

The German retailer says the positions will come on stream over the next two years and are part of a 100 million euro investment.

These plans include the demolition of their existing discount foodstore at Bank Place in Tipp Town and its replacement with a new building.

The gross floor area of the planned structure would be over 2,600 square metres – nearly twice the overall size of the current store.

If approved by Tipperary County Council the new building would be similar to the Lidl concept store opened in Clonmel earlier this year.

The mono-pitched structure would range in height equivalent from 1 to 2 storeys and as would incorporate and bakery and off-licence.

The proposals include parking for 141 cars and 8 bicycles while access would be maintained via the existing entrance onto Bank Place

A decision on the planning application for Lidl in Tipp Town is due by mid-September.
