The OPW is understood to be considering disused defence forces bases around the country to provide accommodation for the refugees who come here.
As well as Kickham Barracks in Clonmel, officials from the Office of Public Works are to examine former barracks in Kildare, Mullingar and Arbour Hill to access their suitability.
However, Clonmel Fianna Fail Councillor Siobhán Ambrose says it's just not feasible for Kickham Barracks as a comprehensive plan is already in place for the site.
