Kenny says open border is critical after Brexit

The Taoiseach says the retention of an open border with the North after Brexit is critical.

Enda Kenny was speaking at an event to consider the impact of the UK decision to leave the EU

Politicians, Trade Unions, business and voluntary groups are attending the event in Kilmainham in Dublin today.

In his opening remarks The Taoiseach said the upcoming negotiations must result in us maintaining the closest possible trading relationship with the UK and the North.

Meanwhile business groups have welcomed the all Ireland dialogue on Brexit – saying at least they're talking.

Some quarters have dismissed the forum as a 'talking shop', in particular due to the absence of Unionists.

But John McGrane, who heads up the British Irish Chamber of Commerce says it's an important first step.
