The Locum will take over a practice of 800 patients, on an interim basis, when the well known General Practitioner retires shortly.
There has been widespead fear among patients and other local GPs that no replacement would be found after several efforts to fill the post failed.
But Labour TD Alan Kelly says a long term solution still needs to be found.
