The OCI says it's accepted his resignation with regret.

The Olympic Council of Ireland has been embroiled in controversy since allegations of ticket touting emerged during the Rio games in August.

Police in Brazil are continuing their investigations while two separate reports are being carried out her by Grant Thornton and Justice Carroll Moran.

In recent weeks FAI President and then Vice President of the OCI John Delaney said he was reconsidering his position.

At six o'clock last night Mr Delaney emailed acting OCI President Willie O'Brien to resign from the body.

In a statement he says he will co-operate fully with the relevant inquiries – but that he remains fully confident that his position and non-involvement in these matters will be clarified and independently verified.

Delaney has been involved with the OCI since 2005 and had been tipped to replace Pat Hickey as president.
