It could be some time before the swimming pool in Thurles is re-opened to the public.

Consultants were brought in immediately to look at the failure – a shortlist of contractors will be drawn up shortly.

District Director for the Templemore – Thurles Area Matt Shortt says they have already taken action to have whatever repairs are necessary carried out.

Newly elected Councillors on the Templemore – Thurles Municipal District highlighted that paid up members of Thurles Swimming Pool were now having to travel to use the facilities in Roscrea and pay again.

They asked that people making the journey to Roscrea be allowed free use of the pool which Matt Shortt says will be examined.
