Ireland is on course to become the “fattest” country in Europe by 2025.

The finding is being released by the Irish Heart Foundation and the Federation of Irish Sport, as they call on secondary schools to provide two hours of P.E. each week to try and tackle the growing obesity crisis among teenagers here.

Sarah O'Connor, Chief Executive of the Federation of Irish Sport says post primary schools have a poor record on physical education compared to our European counterparts.

She says currently we could fill Croke Park two and a half times in terms of people with Type 2 diabetes – if current trends continue it could be filled 7 times in ten years time.
