The body's holding its annual general meeting in Kilkenny this weekend were the idea is set to be discussed.
The motion has been raised by members of it's Mayo branch for the IPU to run candidates in every constituency in the country.
However General Secretary of the union Ned O'Hara says he doesn't think that is practical.
