The 7pm Ballybrophy to Limerick train crashed through safety barrier gates at the level-crossing at Castleconnell, Co Limerick, last Saturday night.
The crossing was open to traffic at the time.
No one was injured in the crash but Iarnród Éireann has described it as “very serious”.
