High trolley numbers in the county today

38 people are lined along the corridors and wards awaiting a bed at South Tipp General.

Meanwhile visitor restrictions remain in place at the hospital as it deals with several cases of Winter Vomiting Bug.

For the past month and more trolleywatch figures for South Tipperary General have remained consistently high – regularly in the mid twenties and at times hitting the 30 plus mark.

Today is one of those days – with 38 people stuck on trolleys and chairs awaiting a bed – 31 in the ED and a further 7 on the wards – and bar Galway which has 39 – South Tipperary General is the worst affected for hospital overcrowding nationwide.

Coupled with this, restrictions remain in place due to an outbreak of the Norovirus which has resulted in the closure of 1 ward.  Several people were diagnosed with the condition and hospital staff are dealing with 6 others presenting with symptoms.

Today's figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation also show that the main feeder hospital for North Tipperary patients – University Hospital Limerick is under pressure too with 25 people stuck on trolleys while there are 20 in Cork and a further 11 in Waterford.
